Coil size

A French knitted string and hand-sculpted wire banana to perch randomly atop your Christmas tree.

I appreciate that a banana may not be a usual choice to top a Christmas tree, but the urge to try it was irresistible. And let's be honest, Christmas can be a bit bananas at times.

Coil Size

I like a coil that fits snugly around the leader branch. All my tree toppers are available with either a standard coil (still formed round the handle of a wooden spoon) or a large 2cm coil.

  • Standard (1cm diameter) – fits most real trees and narrower artificial trees
  • Wide (2cm diameter) – better for fuller or larger artificial trees

Size

20 x 15 x 1cm (25cm total length including coil), roughly the same size as an actual banana. Works well on large trees, or as a statement piece on medium-sized trees.

Fixing

Twist the wire coil around the leader branch—think of it as plaiting them together.

Materials

Natural cotton string from James Lever Factory, Bolton, UK (manufacturing twine since 1870). Slight colour variations and flecks are part of the charm.

I hand-dye the string used in these bananas, so due to batch variations the colours may differ slightly from those shown in the images. Prolonged exposure to sunlight may cause dyed colours to fade.

Sustainability

Plastic-free, minimal packaging, all materials can be reused, composted, or widely recycled.

My bananas are all handmade so sizes are approximate.
