UNDYED COTTON MINI HOT WATER BOTTLE

A mini hot water bottle with a simple cover, knitted from cotton string. Hardwearing yet comforting, these bottles are small enough to tuck it into the small of your back at your desk, or slip it into your waistband under a coat on winter walks.

Never one to have idle hands, I knit these almost daily whilst going about my life—on beaches, car journeys, in waiting rooms and departure lounges. Where will yours be knitted?

Materials: Slight colour variation and blemishes are characteristic of unbleached cotton string and add to its charm.

Specifications: 
  • Bottle: approx. 14cm × 24cm, 500ml capacity. Manufactured to British Standard 1970:2012.
  • Cover: hand knitted in the round using Everlasto no.4 Polished Cotton Twine.

The following instructions and safety warnings are sent out with all my hot water bottles.

Instructions:

To remove the cover empty the hot water bottle, squeeze out the air and put the stopper back in place.

Roll the hot water bottle and squeeze it through the opening at the neck. It is a tight fit and will require a bit of effort to get it out, but cotton string is very hardy and will withstand a lot of stretching.

To reinsert the hot water bottle do the above in reverse. 

Safety:

  • The bottle must only be filled by a competent adult.
  • Check the entire bottle, including the stopper, for any signs of wear and tear, damage, splits or perishing before use.
  • Before first use fill with cold water to ensure the bottle is in good condition and fills properly with no leaks. 
  • Only use the bottle in its cover to prevent burns or skin irritation.
  • Fill the bottle with hot water from the tap. Never use boiling or just boiled water from the kettle.
  • Fill the bottle slowly, taking care not overfill - 3/4 full is recommended the maximum.
  • Ensure the funnel is empty before firmly tightening the stopper.
  • Do not lay or sit on the hot water bottle.
  • Replace the bottle as soon as you notice any signs of damage or wear and tear.
  • It is recommended that all bottles should be replaced every two years.
